Churchill …………………..150/3 (17.4 overs)
Prince Edward ……………149/7 (20 overs)
Churchill put up a brilliant performance to beat Prince Edward at the ongoing CABS Smashing Cricket T20 Tournament. The playoffs game saw Churchill successfully chase 149 runs to win the nail biting encounter. This was the highest successful run chase in the tournament so far.
Churchill who had won one game, drew one, and lost one showed that form can count for very little when it comes to a derby game as they came against a Prince Edward side that had won all their games to date.
Prince Edward got off to a flying start getting to 50 runs in only 4 overs. In form batsman P. Madzore causing the most damage making 48 runs with 15 balls faced. His dismissal near the end of the third over was saw a turn in the game as Churchill took control.
The Churchill fielding was efficient making it difficult for Prince Edward to score with their catlike reflexes and pinpoint accuracy. This saw a devastating collapse of the Prince Edward batting line up as batsman after batsman was quickly dispatched by the Churchill fielders. It was later on in the game when T. Sithole (20) and T. Musekiwa (42) formed a partnership that gave Prince Edward a resurgence and saw them add more runs to the board.
Outside of the early runout of A. Chibvuri for 1 the Churchill batting was as disciplined as their fielding had been. The partnership between opening batsman S. Munyurwa (56) and T. Munyonga (31) provided nearly half of the required runs. Churchill reached the required runs with 2.2 overs to spare.
Today Churchill play St Georges in their second playoff match, while Prince Edward play Falcon in a must win encounter if they are to have a chance of proceeding to the finals.
